CITY & TEMPLES TOUR
(3.5hours) |
Visit Wat Chiang Mun (AD 1296), the oldest temple within the city walls. Drive through many different parts of the northern capital, passing residential areas, important foreign establishments, handsome government buildings and stopping at the busy Ton Pa Yom or Som Pet Market to view local products in season. Drive through Ta Pae, the main street and shopping centre, and on to three other splendid temples: Wat Chedi Luang (AD 1411) where the Emerald Buddha was once enshrined; Wat Phra Singh (AD 1345) where a 1,500-year-old Buddha image and fine carvings are to be found; and Wat Suan Dok (AD 1371) where the ashes of Chiang Mai's Royal Family are interred. Proceed to Wat Jed Yod with its seven spires and unusual architecture commemorating the year 2000 of the Buddhist era. |

BUFFALO TRAINING CAMP
(3.5hours) |
The camp is situated in paddy fields stretching as far as the eye can see. Buffaloes, once common in Thailand, are now relatively scarce. See a demonstration of how buffaloes are used in tilling the ground, how to control them to move left or right, to halt and pull wagons. The demonstration includes various methods for mounting a buffalo. Also see a variety of buffalo skills, and a mock buffalo race - these lumbering animals can run surprisingly fast! The programme includes hands-on experience for the tour participants in planting young rice seedings in the rice field. |
